HAWTHORN 02

BUILT BY MASTERPLAN BUILDERS

Completed:  2015

Type:  ADDITION AND ALTERATION

The Glen Iris Project was an addition and alteration to an existing californian bunglalow.  The existing residence was a modest weatherboard, with a very tired interior, and an extension which had been completed in the 90's.

The design intent was to create a two storey contemporary extension, that maximised the use of the sloping land, but still capitalised on the views over the park to the rear.  The existing home was stripped out and refitted to create a more functional layout, and one that is more appropriate for a growing family.

By creating a split level to the rear of the existing home, it meant that the understated californian bungalow to the front was not dwarfed by a two storey extension.

Some more traditional features were reinstated to the front of the home, giving it a stronger street presence and charm to the street.
